About

Learn about our parish history, Saint Thomas the Apostle, and the progress of our building project.

Our Parish History

Saint Thomas began in 2003, when local families gathered for worship with Father Thomas Davis to bring Orthodox Christianity to the Snohomish area. Father David Sommer has served the parish since 2005, and our community includes many people who discovered Orthodoxy as adults. Since 2021, we have worshiped on our permanent Snohomish property while working toward a new church building.

Saint Thomas the Apostle

Saint Thomas, our parish’s patron, was one of Christ’s Twelve Apostles. When the risen Lord invited him to touch His wounds, Thomas confessed, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:27–28).

Church tradition tells us that Thomas carried the Gospel to India, establishing Christian communities and ordaining clergy. He remained faithful to Christ through martyrdom, and the Church commemorates him on October 6.

“Doubting, thou didst come forth to touch His side, yet the Resurrection was confirmed by thine unbelief. Henceforth all have been taught by thee to serve Christ; O, Thomas who didst end thy course well by holy martyrdom.” — Megalynaria of St. Thomas
